The Blessing Hidden in God’s Dealings

Many of us begin our walk with God filled with excitement. We receive a promise, a prophecy, a clear divine instruction, or a strong sense of calling. In our excitement, we naturally assume that if God has spoken, the path ahead will be smooth, direct, and straightforward.

Yet, for many believers, reality looks very different.

Instead of immediate breakthroughs, we encounter delays. Instead of rapid promotion, we face fierce opposition. Instead of comfort, we experience unexpected trials.

At some point on the journey, sincere believers find themselves asking difficult questions:

• “Did God really speak to me?”

• “Did I hear correctly?”

• “Was that truly God’s voice, or just my own desire?”

If you’ve ever asked these questions, know this: they are not signs of unbelief. They are often part of the essential process through which God forms His servants and prepares them for His ultimate purposes.

1. Promises Do Not Exempt Us from the Process

One of the clearest pictures of this truth is found in the life of Joseph.

Scripture Spotlight:

“Moreover, He called for a famine in the land; He destroyed all the provision of bread. He sent a man before them—Joseph—who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters; he was laid in irons. Until the time that his word came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him.”

— Psalm 105:16–19

Notice something profound: God sent Joseph, yet the journey of the man sent by God was full of deep suffering. Betrayed by brothers, thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and left forgotten in prison—everything about Joseph's circumstances contradicted the dreams of greatness God had given him.

When God gives a promise, trouble often appears. When He assigns a vision, opposition frequently follows.

The lesson? God’s promises do not exempt us from God’s process. In fact, the greater the assignment, the deeper the preparation required.

2. God Arranges What He Doesn't Always Announce

Psalm 105 reveals another key insight: God Himself orchestrated the famine that eventually elevated Joseph, yet He didn't tell Joseph about it beforehand. Joseph endured years of unexplained pain while God was quietly setting the stage for his elevation.

This is often how God works:

• When He is preparing the circumstances that will announce you, He may keep you in the dark about the details.

• He calls you to simply walk by faith.

Even the greatest leaders in Scripture wrestled with doubt and discouragement during their training seasons. Moses tried to avoid his call, Jeremiah complained about its weight, Elijah asked to die, and Jonah ran away.

Today, many celebrate the announcement of a calling but underestimate the preparation required to fulfill it.

3. Building a Vessel, Not Just a Platform

God is not interested in giving a person a platform before building their character.

In Jeremiah 18, God instructed the prophet to watch the potter at work. The potter didn't just design an object; he patiently worked and reshaped the clay whenever flaws appeared until it became a vessel suitable for use.

In the same way, God subjects us to what I call “dealings.”

What Are God's Dealings?

God’s dealings are His deliberate process of removing the weaknesses that would otherwise destroy us when success arrives. They often include:

• Seasons of waiting and obscurity

• Rejection and misunderstandings

• Disappointments and temporary setbacks

Unprepared success is far more dangerous than temporary suffering. God cares too much about your future to give you authority without brokenness, influence without character, or power without maturity.

4. Learning to Judge God Faithful

Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. This doesn't mean all circumstances are good; it means God can use all circumstances for good.

One of the greatest markers of spiritual maturity is learning to judge God faithful:

• When circumstances are confusing — judge God faithful.

• When promises seem delayed — judge God faithful.

• When prayers appear unanswered — judge God faithful.

God’s dealings are never driven by anger or destruction. As Psalm 103:10 notes, He does not deal with us according to our sins. His dealings are expressions of deep fatherly love, designed to transform us into vessels that can carry His glory without breaking.

Trust the Process: From the Pit to the Palace

Joseph’s prison wasn't a punishment—it was preparation. The pit wasn't the end—it was part of the pathway.

When God’s appointed time arrived, Joseph moved from the prison to the palace in a single day. Suddenly, every year of delay made complete sense. The God who tested him had never forgotten him.

If you are walking through a difficult or quiet season right now:

1. Do not conclude that God has abandoned you.

2. Do not abandon your faith because of delay.

3. Submit to the process and let Him build your character.

The dealings of God are often the hidden pathway to the fulfillment of His greatest promises.
